Until a motion is decided, Governor Ademola Adeleke cannot appoint or install a new Olojo of Ojo in Egbedore Local Government Area, according to an Osun State High Court sitting in Ede.
In a case marked HED/18/2026, A. Mikaheel represented five applicants, all members of the ruling house, who wanted a temporary injunction to safeguard their interests in choosing the traditional ruler.
Princes Babatunde Hammed Adegoke, Taofeek Adekunle Adegoke, Abiodun Adelakun, Olukunle Oyetunji, and Nathaniel Olaniyi Adelakun are the applicants.
They petitioned the court on behalf of themselves and other members of the ruling party against Egbedore Traditional Council, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Osun State Attorney-General, and Governor Adeleke.
High Chief Falowo Jamiu Adebayo represents the kingmakers and warrant chiefs participating in the selection process, while Prince Mike Abiola represents members of the Onimolodun Ruling House. The other defendants in the case are these individuals.
The petitioners had gone to court to ask for a temporary restraining order that would stop the defendants and their representatives from nominating, selecting, acknowledging, or installing anyone as the new Olojo of Ojo.
While they awaited the outcome of their motion on notice, they asked the court to prevent the parties from installing a new monarch until after the hearing.
An order dated October 29, 2026, which was acquired in Osogbo on Friday, granted the application by Justice K. Akano.
According to the judge, “An order of interim injunction is hereby granted restraining the defendants, their allies, agents, privies, successors and/or whosoever is claiming through them from installing, appointing, declaring, recognising and/or accepting any candidate as Olojo of Ojo.”
As the court put it, “pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice filed on 11th March, 2026,” the restriction will stay in place.
The order was signed by the presiding judge and issued at Ede under the court seal on October 29, 2026, according to Justice Akano.
Earlier, four ruling houses in Ijabe, Odo-Otin Local Government Area, took legal action against the state government over the nomination of a new Onijabe. This development follows another chieftaincy issue in Osun State.
On October 23, 2026, the Osun State Executive Council supposedly authorised the nomination of Babatunde Omotosho Tajudeen as the Onijabe of Ijabeland and revoked the town’s 2018 modified chieftaincy declaration; the Ijabe families are contesting this decision.
On Saturday, October 24, 2026, the state government announced his appointment in a statement released by Kolapo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment.
