Monday Okpebholo, the governor of Edo State, has spoken out over the alleged assault on Osagie Idieda, also known as MC Porkupyne, a comedian from Benin.
As previously reported by Furucinovel, the comedian was allegedly assaulted in the wee hours of October 24th, on his way back from celebrating the birthday of the wife of an APC chieftain.
On Tuesday, while hosting members of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) at Government House in Benin City, Okpebholo made a speech.
As far as Okpebholo was concerned, official intelligence connected the purported attack on the comedian to cult-related pursuits.
The governor strongly suggested that people should not trust unverified allegations on social media but rather trustworthy news sources from established news institutions.
There are a lot of things on social media, he claims. Those are not real.
In addition, the governor denied rumours that he had fired his chief security officer (CSO). “So, if my CSO had travelled for training, you said he’s been sacked,” he remarked. No, that isn’t news reporting. False information. “Social media” is what he was trying to say.
Journalists have helped bring the country together and promote peaceful coexistence, which Okpebholo praised. What we are experiencing today is a result of your fight.
