The world is waiting for Southeast governors and leaders to make progress on the push for a political solution to secure the release of the Biafra agitator, according to Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB.
Following a ruling by the Abuja Federal High Court, Kanu is presently incarcerated at the Sokoto Custodial Center for life.
Kanu was convicted guilty of crimes committed during his Biafra struggle by the court presided over by Justice James Omotosho.
Some politicians in the Southeast had called for a political resolution to gain his release after he was given a life sentence.
However, according to Ejimakor, the public record will demonstrate that Kanu made it clear from the beginning that any discussion or political solution must come from a place of honour and the highest good faith.
Ejimakor stated in a statement he signed that the government should start creating the right conditions for it.
“This press statement has become necessary to address the public, particularly those who latched on to my recent public statement on “political solution” as it relates to MAZI NNAMDI KANU and twisted it to portray him as one desperate for political solution,” the statement said.
Undoubtedly, any political solution needs to be comprehensive and incorporate the fundamental components of integrity and respect. These two fundamental components must exist, even those close to the government who had advocated for a political solution. Lessons were learned in September 2017 when the government used Python Dance to thwart a bankable political solution.
Therefore, a political solution should always be the conventional and inevitable resolution to any agitation or conflict rather than emerging from bending knees.
Every political dispute culminates at a table. Tensions between nations, colonialism, apartheid, war, and unfair political detentions all came to an end around a table.
As a result, the world is waiting for Southeast leaders—especially the governors—to provide an update on the political solution they started as recently as June of this year.
