After years of relocation due to the Boko Haram insurgency, five communities in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State have been resettled. Gradually, farming, education, and fishing have resumed.

This was revealed in Maiduguri on Tuesday by Mustapha Muhammad, the Executive Chairman of Kukawa Local Government Area.

The displaced people were able to return to their ancestral homes and restore access to their farmlands, according to Muhammad, because of the increased security.

The farmers are re-establishing contact with their ancestral homes and farmlands as a result of the tranquillity in the region, he added.

He added that more youngsters were making their way back to class as a result of the reopening and renovation of schools made possible by the return of locals.

In addition, Muhammad mentioned that fishing, which had been halted due to the insurgency, was slowly getting back on track, along with fish marketing and other associated industries.

But he did mention that people, especially those going between areas, still faced some security difficulties.

He claims that military escorts are still necessary for certain routes, even if assaults and ambushes have decreased along main routes like Doro and Mairari-Cross Kauwa.

He assured the public that the government was coordinating with security forces to ensure the safety of its citizens and get them back to work.
