The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has issued a warning to drivers and vehicle owners on the illegal use of fake, masked, or intentionally faded license plates.
Unauthorised individuals in the FCT are being cautioned by the Command not to use tinted glasses without proper authorisation and not to use counterfeit diplomatic license plates.
Sunday, the Command’s spokeswoman, SP Josephine Adeh, announced the warning that had been given by CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, the commissioner of police.
Law enforcement officials have stated that this alert is required because of the growing number of these automobiles on the road, which might make it harder for authorities to trace and identify vehicles used in illegal operations.
“Offenders in the FCT may use vehicles with hidden or changed license plates to avoid capture after committing crimes, which is a major security concern,” the Command stated.
The usage of such cars in the Federal Capital Territory raises serious security concerns since they could make it harder for law enforcement to effectively identify and track people, according to the statement.
The Commissioner issued a directive mandating the arrest and prosecution of lawbreakers in the driving community.
Additionally, he directed all FCT police to crack down harder on lawbreakers and make sure everyone complies with regulations on tinted glasses and vehicle identification.
But the Command cautioned the cops not to extort drivers during the enforcement exercise.
Officers are expected to handle these operations professionally and avoid using them as a tool for extortion, according to the statement.
The police have asked the public to help them out by reporting any suspicious activity or vehicles to the local station or the Command’s hotline.
