After pleading guilty to suppressing information that could have led to the arrest and conviction of terrorists operating in the state, Modu was sentenced on Thursday by Justice Binta Fatima Nyako. Modu comes from Belle village in Danbura Local Government Area of Borno State.

On three counts, the federal government has issued charges against him, including participation in the banned Boko Haram sect, aiding the group by fixing motorcycles, and knowingly concealing information about the terrorists’ actions from security agents.

Despite Modu’s denials, he did confess to concealing information that may have resulted in the group’s members’ imprisonment.

Instead of fighting the motion, the defendant’s lawyer, Dauda Hassan, begged for a light sentence, saying his client was a victim of circumstance.

The fact that Modu’s imprisonment began in 2016 was also brought to the court’s notice by Hassan.

After hearing Modu’s case, the judge ordered the Federal Ministry of the Interior to choose a prison for him to serve his term.
