No Nigerian should be unable to cast a ballot in the general election of 2027 due to postal delays, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

During Thursday’s inauguration of a multi-agency Electoral Logistics Committee to examine the commission’s readiness for the election, Prof. Joash Amupitan, Chairman of the Independent National Voter Registration Commission (INEC), made the statement in Abuja.

According to Amupitan, the committee will check transportation facilities, including as airports and seaports, as well as storage facilities and cars, to make sure that election materials are transported around the nation on schedule.

According to him, the logistical planning, security measures, and coordination needed for an election continue to be among the most critical and difficult parts of the process.

“To avoid disenfranchising any Nigerian because of materials being late, we need to anticipate the weather, the terrain, and the security environment,” he stated.

Preparation for the transportation of critical and non-sensitive election materials by road, air, and sea has to be done early in order to prevent delays on election day, according to the INEC chairman.

Because of the difficulties in getting people and supplies across the varied landscapes of Nigeria, he explained, the commission had opted for a multi-agency strategy.

The readiness of polling locations to accommodate voters at the designated time is a factor in the credibility of an election, according to Amupitan.

He said that the general election in 2027 would be more like a marathon than a sprint.

He elaborated by saying that the committee was formed early on in an effort to set the stage for a trustworthy and efficient voting process.
