A joint stakeholder conference was conducted in Abuja on Friday, where the agencies issued the warning. The meeting was to address the increasing number of celebrity endorsements of Ponzi schemes, fraudulent investment platforms, and unregistered items.

Many Nigerians, they claim, have lost billions of naira after putting their money into items promoted by famous people on social media.

When the items that celebrities support scam Nigerians, they can no longer claim innocence, according to FCCPC Executive Vise Chairman Tunji Bello.

Present at the ceremony was EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, who issued a stern warning that celebrities, artists, and skit creators who endorse fraudulent products will be held responsible for their actions. Because they put their faith in their beloved star, Nigerians lost a lot of money. He emphasised the importance of avoiding abusing that trust.

Celebrity endorsements of counterfeit goods damage consumer trust and encourage corruption, according to the ICPC.

Before signing endorsement deals, the agencies urged celebrities to check with regulatory entities such as NAFDAC, SEC, and FCCPC to ensure the products were legitimate.

Additionally, they encouraged Nigerians to report questionable products and overly promising celebrity endorsements.
