In the run-up to the 2027 general election, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has stated that President Bola Tinubu cannot depend on political allies and defectors to defend the record of his administration.
Atiku demanded that Tinubu explain to the Nigerian people why they have been economically disadvantaged for the last 3.5 years before he can run for reelection.
Atiku accused the president of focusing on his re-election campaign instead of tackling economic difficulties, according to a statement released on Thursday by Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communication of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council.
“In the end, the promises made by politicians campaigning for the president’s re-election will not matter as much as the reality that Nigerians will perceive,” Atiku stated.
When asked who should be held accountable for the promises, decisions, and administration’s performance in 2023, Atiku claimed that Tinubu, and not his campaign council members, had received the mandate from Nigerians.
While focusing on meetings with international creditors and investors, the ex-vice president blasted the president for what he said was the administration’s sluggish reaction to the hardships endured by ordinary Nigerians.
His understanding of Tinubu’s statement that he may be unable to attend certain campaign rallies due to his duties as president was cast into doubt.
He mentioned that a lot of families were having to cut back on food, put off medical treatment, and deal with the increasing expense of life.
According to the ADC campaign official, no amount of political rallies or endorsements from powerful politicians will be able to alter the economic reality that people are facing.
Every campaign stage in Nigeria can accommodate him. He is unable to use substitutes to fill a pot that is empty. The idea of sending a politician to a market to try to get pricing to go down is ridiculous, according to Atiku.
The Nigerian people would listen to his proxies no matter what they say. However, they will keep their experiences in mind when casting their ballots.
