A woman and her two small children who were discovered wandering in Ogii town along the Gbongan-Ibadan road in Osogbo have been reunited with their family by the Osun Amotekun Corps.
Less than a day has passed after the news appeared on Osun and after they were saved by operatives.
Yusuf Idowu Abass, the CSA spokesperson for Osun Amotekun, said in a statement on Saturday that the woman and her children, who were found wandering along the road late on Thursday, were rescued by Amotekun operatives during a nite patrol. The children are roughly three and one year old.
“After the rescue, the woman and the children were taken to the Osun Amotekun Corps headquarters in Osogbo, where they were given care while officers commenced efforts to establish their identity and locate their relatives,” the statement stated.
The woman apparently used ambiguous language and initially refused to speak for several hours. For additional inquiry, she was then directed to the Gender, Family, and People with Disabilities Unit’s Amotekun desk.
The woman provided fragments of helpful information to the family-focused units’ personnel, which aided the inquiry and ultimately allowed authorities to track her family back to Ede.
When the family was found, Olawale Muideen, the woman’s husband, was allegedly out of town. His eldest son, Muideen Aliyullah, recognised the woman, and his younger brother, Mutiu Sodiq, represented him at the Amotekun headquarters.
Speaking on behalf of the family at the reunion, Sodiq thanked the Osun Amotekun Corps officers and men for saving the woman and her kids at such a late hour and making sure they returned safely.
In spite of the woman’s state, he commended the agents for gathering valuable information and locating her home in the Ogberin neighbourhood of Ede.
The family had been looking for the woman for days after she failed to return home with the kids, and Sodiq praised the Corps for the compassionate treatment and care provided to her and her kids while they were in its custody.
Following the announcement of the incident on Thursday nite, Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, the Corps Commander, also praised the public and media for helping to spread information about the rescued woman.
Omoyele praised the officers who saved the woman and her kids during the late-night patrol and stated that one of the Osun Amotekun Corps’ primary goals is still to protect people and property.
The command’s coordinated efforts resulted in the identification and location of the woman’s family within 24 hours, according to the Corps’ Field Commander, Dr. Olusoji Benedict Akanni. He added that officers carefully worked with the limited information obtained before tracing the family to Ede.
