Aminu Tambuwal, a former governor of Sokoto State and a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has denounced the alleged assault on Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan’iya with his entourage.
The event took place on Friday, October 30, 2026, near Sokoto Airport, according to a statement posted by Tambuwal on his X handle on Saturday.
He said that two DSS officials assigned to Dan’iya’s security detail were jailed together with other individuals who obstructed his convoy, opened fire, damaged his vehicle, and were members of the Sokoto State Community Guard and Sokoto Marshal.
“The reported attack on our Sokoto State ADC governorship candidate, Hon. John Osoyinka, is deeply wrong,” he declared. Yesterday, 30 October 2026, Manir Muhammad Dan’iya and his entourage gathered near Sokoto Airport.
It is quite troubling that his convoy was stopped, that his vehicle was damaged, and that two DSS officials who were part of his security detail were detained by members of the Sokoto State Community Guard and the Sokoto Marshal.
I demand that the Nigerian government’s security services, including the police and the Department of State Services, investigate the matter thoroughly and impartially. Those responsible must be held accountable, and I urge them to do so without delay.
The freedom of movement, association with political parties, and, within legal bounds, the pursuit of public office is a fundamental human right for every citizen of Nigeria. When exercising these rights, no citizen should ever be subjected to threats, assault, or harassment.
If you have a political difference or a grievance, I hope you will find a peaceful and legal way to communicate it. Voting is the people’s voice; violence has no place here.
No matter what party a person supports, security forces have an obligation to keep the public safe. It is imperative that they are never used as tools for political coercion.
I demand that the government of Sokoto State watch over all security agencies it oversees to make sure they follow the law and aren’t biased.
We are resolute in our commitment to peaceful political activity and the rule of law, and we will proceed with our scheduled ADC presidential campaign flag-off on 4 November 2026, regardless of the threats or intimidation that may arise.
I beg our members and supporters to keep their cool, be careful, and stand firm.
“Everyone has an equal claim to Sokoto and Nigeria. Our democracy must ensure that every citizen can freely and safely participate.”
